Comfort and Joy 2017

The Christmas season is filled with hope and wonder. But it’s also a timely reminder that Jesus himself was poor. He was homeless. He was a refugee. He was persecuted and abused and abandoned by those he loved. And he came to earth for all those who experience poverty, both physical and spiritual.

As we celebrate the riches of God’s grace to us this season, we offer tidings of comfort and joy to those who remind us of the way Jesus came to earth — as a vulnerable child.

Collection for Children in Foster Care

Offer support to children in foster care and the families caring for them by donating infant onesies and any size diapers. Collection boxes will be available on Sunday mornings at Redeemer Church (1831 S. El Camino Real, Encinitas, 92024) through December 24th.

Sponsor a Family for Christmas

Families that are struggling or in crisis are just like us–they want to celebrate the holidays with a special meal or gifts for loved ones. But when day-to-day needs are overwhelming, these holiday celebrations seem beyond reach. Your gifts can give children and families hope for a better future and a reminder that they are not outside the reach of God’s love. Learn more here.

Give

Your gift to Hope for San Diego is a gift to the most vulnerable in San Diego — children in foster care, victims of sex trafficking, homeless families, and refugees and immigrants. Only with your help can children and families break the cycle of poverty!

Multiply Your Gift!

This holiday season, a group of generous supporters has pledged to match your donation, up to a total of $40,000. Double your donation by giving before midnight on December 31st!

Donations for San Diego Refugee Tutoring

At the end of each school semester, San Diego Refugee Tutoring distributes several items to their students:

Collect very gently used books to bring to tutoring until December 12th. These books will be given to the children during the annual SDRT Book Celebration. Books must be new or very gently used and preschool-3rd grade level books or coloring books.

Bring gift cards to Payless for shoes to give refugee students. These gift cards will be used throughout the year to continue buying students the shoes they need. You can donate the gift cards to tutoring until December 14th.

Donate items for Cookie Decorating Night! Each year, on the last day of tutoring, tutors and students decorate and eat cookies together. Items needed: 12 dozen homemade sugar cookies cut into holiday shapes, 6 cans of vanilla frosting, 3 bottles of red sprinkles, 3 bottles of green sprinkles.

Please email volunteer@hopeforsd.org if you wish to provide any of these items.

Ibarra Elementary’s Winter Festival
