Protecting the Vulnerable

Homelessness

hfsd_icon_homelessFar from an isolated problem, homelessness is often the end result of a series of traumatic events. Each of the more than 4,000 unsheltered individuals in San Diego County has his or her own story that includes such complex issues as unemployment, mental health issues, physical disability, addiction, abuse, and serious health crises. Solving those underlying issues requires a holistic approach that addresses the spiritual, social, economic, political, cultural, emotional, physical, moral, judicial, educational, and familial issues of each person. Hope for San Diego connects volunteers with organizations that are solving homelessness by addressing these underlying issues so that their time and money will bring lasting change.

Solutions for Change

Solutions for Change transforms lives and communities by permanently solving family homelessness. Through complete, sustainable, and accountable programs, Solutions for Change helps families heal and equips them for future success.

Our Support

Hope for San Diego volunteers support Solutions for Change families by serving meals at the temporary shelter, working on landscape clean up or farm operations, and helping with childcare while parents attend training classes.

Hope for San Diego’s 2016 grant provided funds to rehabilitate a home for a family that has completed 1,000  hours attending Solutions University, which includes rehabilitation, counseling, parenting classes, and training in life skills. This family is ready to move toward independence and have a safe, secure, and happy place to live as a healthy family that has broken the cycle of homelessness and addiction.
