Back to School Strong


On August 12th, Redeemer Church in Encinitas will host Back to School Strong 2018. Hope for San Diego’s affiliates that offer tutoring to under-served kids throughout San Diego will be onsite with information about the needs of the coming school year and how volunteers like you can help! Be sure to stop by, meet our guests, and find out how just an hour or two of your time each week could be what a student needs to start back to school strong!

Tutoring Opportunities

Casa de Amistad —Solana Beach and Encinitas

Casa de Amistad provides tutoring, educational support, and character development to under-served children, teens, and their families in the coastal North County San Diego area. Tutors need to commit to at least one tutoring session once a week on either Tuesday or Thursday and can choose the age of student they’d prefer to tutor.

Elementary School: Tuesdays & Thursdays 4:15-5:45pm
Middle & High School: Tuesdays & Thursdays 6-7:30pm
Encinitas Location: Wednesdays 4-5:30pm

Fall Tutor Training: September 6th from 5-7pm at Solana Beach Presbyterian Church

San Diego Refugee Tutoring—City Heights

By providing educational access, San Diego Refugee Tutoring hopes to bring social justice to refugees in eastern City Heights. Through one-on-one tutoring and comprehensive academic support, San Diego Refugee Tutoring equips children with the skills needed to succeed in a new cultural environment.

Tutoring (preschool through high school): Tuesdays & Thursdays 5:00-6:30pm

Orientation: Thursday, September 13th and Tuesday, September 18th from 5:00-6:30pm at Ibarra Elementary

Tutoring begins September 25th

A Step Beyond—Encinitas

A Step Beyond empowers under-served youth through dance education, academic support, and family services. You can tutor elementary or junior high students after school Monday through Friday. The Tech Club is an opportunity for students to learn more about computer programming every Monday from 6 to 7pm.

Solutions for Change—Vista

Solutions for Change breaks the pattern of homelessness and poverty by equipping families with vocational training and work experience, family management and leadership development, and resources like housing, education, counseling, and healthcare. Tutor elementary or high school students in the Solutions for Change program after school on Thursday afternoons from 4pm to 5:30pm.
