This year, as a wrap-up for a handful of projects we get to partner with Big Table, an organization that comes alongside hospitality industry workers. Did you know, the restaurant and hospitality industry is the largest industry in the nation with a stunning concentration of poverty and brokenness hidden behind the smiles that welcome guests. This is an industry in which there is a significant overlap with the vulnerable populations in our focus areas: immigrants/refugees, trafficking survivors, homeless, and foster care.
With your help, HFSD will sponsor post-project lunches at restaurants or cafes that Big Table knows need extra support. After volunteers enjoy eating lunch together they will run a “Care Blitz” for the restaurant or cafe staff and offer “Unexpected 20” envelopes (that includes a $20) to everyone working on-site that day. These envelopes will have information about Big Table and how to receive additional care if needed. The manager will be notified ahead of time so there is no confusion and they are ready to receive the overflow of care.
