From Stranger To Neighbor – Raindrop Testing

EVENT POSTPONED TO MARCH 9TH

Due to the heightened number of COVID cases currently we have decided to postpone the From Stranger To Neighbor event until Wednesday, March 9th. We are hopeful that this change will help keep us safe in these days, and will allow for a fuller gathering in-person in March. We recognize the power of being physically together to listen, experience, and respond to these important ideas and vulnerable situations that our refugee neighbors are in right now. Thank you to all who have RSVPed and expressed interest. We look forward to seeing you all on March 9th! In the meantime, please continue to check our Support Afghan Refugees page, social media and your inbox for information on ways to be engaged in caring for newly arriving Afghan families.

Wednesday, March 09 from 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm

About the Event

On MARCH 9TH: Let’s Learn and Respond

Come hear from Matt Soerens, U.S. Director of Church Mobilization at World Relief, and Jane Register, Church Mobilizer for World Relief SoCal, as well as a personal testimony from a refugee community member. Let’s consider together our role as the church in responding to immigrants and refugees in our midst.

In the past few months, after the horrific events that took place in Afghanistan, many of us across the U.S. have been thinking a great deal about immigration and refugees. This is especially true in hub cities like San Diego where a large portion of Afghan refugees are landing. The question lies before us: how should we respond? While some have been engaging with this question for years and some are just starting to consider it, we all need the space to learn and respond together to our call as Christians. Come join us for a conversation on immigration and hear specifics about what’s happening in San Diego.

Interact afterward with response tables from Hope For San Diego and World Relief, and art pieces from Art Inspiring Change, all while enjoying sweets and drinks from the MAKE Project, a local program that equips refugees with skills and resources to adapt and thrive in their new home.

OPTIONAL “Entry Fee”: Bring a NEW twin comforter for an Afghan family!

Following county mandates and Makers Church policy, masks will be mandatory at this event.
