Lament & Hope: Lent 2023
The Ancient Church incorporated 40 days of solemn practices, beginning with Ash Wednesday, to prepare themselves for Easter. Today, we often think of Lent as a season to give something up. Rather, fasting during Lent is one way that we create space for more of Jesus in our lives. We remember our complete dependence on him and walk the road to Calvary with him in sorrow and repentance.
Lent is also a time to lament, not only our personal sin, but the brokenness of the world around us. We lament in order to acknowledge that everything is not as it was meant to be and cry out to God against the injustices of our world. The beauty of lament is that we can bring all our grief and feelings of pain and loss to the Lord. He can handle all of it. He took all of it onto himself on the Cross so that we might live. That is the hope we need!

LEARN & SERVE PROJECTS
Over the 40 days of lent, Hope For San Diego is offering opportunities to Learn and Serve alongside our affiliate organizations, who are on the front lines of seeing and caring for the most vulnerable in our city. Get to know one of the unique neighborhoods in our county, face the heavy issues plaguing our communities, and learn how to be part of the solution.
These projects are ideal for volunteers who want a deeper understanding of our focus areas (homelessness, sex trafficking, foster care, immigrants & refugees) and are ready to invest in the renewal of our city. Find dates, locations, age limits, and ways to sign up below.
FAMILY FRIENDLY PROJECTS
Check out a handful of opportunities for the whole family to serve during lent. These are both in-person and at-home options.
These projects are ideal for all ages to practice looking to the needs of others and giving time, resources, and energy to the renewal of our city. Find dates, locations, and ways to sign up below.
