On April 21, the U.S. announced Uniting for Ukraine, a new streamlined process to provide Ukrainian citizens opportunities to come to the United States, fulfilling President Biden’s commitment to welcome up to 100,000 Ukrainians. Previously, Ukrainians were entering the U.S. through the southern border with Mexico and needed temporary care in San Diego. Uniting for Ukraine provides a pathway those who are outside the United States to come here and stay temporarily for up to two years. This policy has changed the need for volunteers and support in San Diego. Apart from a limited number of short- and long-term host families, volunteers are not currently needed.
Ukrainians participating in Uniting for Ukraine must have a supporter in the United States who agrees to provide them with financial support for the duration of their stay in the United States. Details on this process are available in the resource links.
