Kids who don’t learn to read by the end of third grade are at great risk of not graduating high school! Come help struggling students know that someone cares about them. You will be participating in rotating activities with your buddies—everything from math and reading to homework and hands-on activities.
Of the more than 400 students at Walker Elementary School, nearly half are emerging bi-lingual, 80% receive free or reduced lunch, and 20% don’t have stable housing. Walker Buddies is offered as a free, volunteer-run program for the most vulnerable of these students.
Volunteers can serve as buddies on Mondays from 5:00-6:30pm or Wednesdays from 3:30-5:00pm. A commitment of three times per month is required.
